FAQ: The Electronic Gaming Monthly Compendium
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

I backed at a tier that includes Digital Archive Access and/or a print copy of the "Lost Issue," but it's asking if I want to add those items on. What gives?

If you back the project at a tier that includes Digital Archive access or a print copy of the “Lost Issue,” you don’t need to (and shouldn’t) purchase the add-ons. You’ll get all the items listed in your tier. We wanted to let backers at lower tiers purchase those items individually, but we can’t limit those add-ons to specific tiers. We apologize for any confusion.

Will The EGM Compendium be available outside of this Kickstarter campaign?

The Kickstarter version of the book will be an exclusive first edition, with features that won’t be available with copies sold later through other retailers. (Exactly how many exclusive features depend on which stretch goals we meet during the campaign.)

The backer rewards will never be made available outside of the campaign.

Is the list of contributors final?

No. We’re still reaching out to game developers, EGM alumni, and influencers to ensure we get as many participants as possible, so the list will likely expand before the book ships. We’ll share any updates on the campaign page as we have them.

If you’re a developer, former EGM employee or contributor, or gaming influencer who would like to have your memories of EGM included in the Compendium, please feel free to contact us at books[at]egmnow[dot]net.

If I back at a tier that provides access to the EGM Compendium Digital Archive or purchase it as an add-on, how long will my access last?

You’ll be able to access the Digital Archive for as long as it remains online, with no follow-up costs or subscriptions required.

What size is the book for my tier?

The physical book will now be 9”x12” in all tiers, because backers have unlocked the Bigger Book stretch goal.

When will I be able to access the Digital Archive?

We’re still finalizing the Digital Archive but aim to have it accessible to backers as soon as possible, with the goal of providing access to all qualifying backers by the date the book ships or even sooner.

Do note that if we achieve any of the stretch goals related to expanding the Digital Archive, those features may not be finished by the time you’re granted access, but we’ll be updating the site regularly until they’re implemented.

Will the Digital Archive be available outside of this Kickstarter Campaign?

While it’s possible that we will we sell access to the Digital Archive at a later date, we have no current plans to do so. We anticipate it will remain exclusive to our Kickstarter backers for at least six months, if not longer.

What if I bought a physical copy of the book but I also want a digital version?

Good news, bud! Based on early backer feedback, we’ve decided to send everyone who backs at a physical tier a digital copy as well.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
