With a little over 48 hours left until the funding period wraps up, you and the rest of our amazing backers have pushed the campaign past the $700,000 mark. While we can't ever thank you enough for your support of The EGM Compendium, we figured you might appreciating hearing from some folks besides me and Mollie for a change.
On that note, we'll turn things over to just a few of the dozens of former EGM editors who'll be participating in the book:
"I'm dreading everyone having access to everything I wrote 2+ decades ago. Please don't read this."
–Dan "Shoe" Hsu
(1996-2008)
Editorial Director (1UP Network), Editor-in-Chief, Previews Editor, Associate Editor, Assistant Editor
"I'm blown away by the incredible response and reaction to this masterful ode to EGM, despite unsuccessfully lobbying to redact ill-conceived photos of me and the rest of the Review Crew bedecked as festive elves in the 1996 issue's Holiday Buyer's Guide. Would be a real shame if something happened to that one very specific section of the EGM archive."
–Crispin Boyer
(1996-2008)
Senior Executive Editor, Senior Editor, Features Editor, Associate Editor
“It’s exciting and gratifying to see this Kickstarter doing so well. EGM was a big part of my childhood (as a reader), and then my second, much better childhood, where I got paid to play and write about unreleased video games for 14 hours a day for like four years straight with a bunch of like-minded pals. It’s cool that they might make a new issue and all, but my ultimate dream is to see Decapitato brought back as a competitive extreme sport with real stakes—you know, like Squid Game, but for nerds. So keep those pledges coming!”
–John Ricciardi
(1997-2007)
International Editor, Japanese Correspondent, Reviews Editor, Associate Editor
“I’d like to say that it's incredibly shocking and humbling that so many seem to be interested in something that was so fun for me to be a part of for so many years. You really never know the good ol’ days until they're passed and I never thought that in this day of instant digital media that people would care about EGM's legacy and it's been awesome to see. Thank you—it's so gratifying.”
–Kraig Kujawa
(1997-2002)
Senior Associate Editor, Associate Editor, Sports Editor
"I’m eternally grateful to all the fans who not only backed this project but shot us well past the stretch goals. EGM was such a huge part of my life, and to know that folks want us back for one more rodeo is beyond humbling. We promise to deliver the next chapter that both EGM, and you, the fans, so rightfully deserve. Thank you."
–Ray Carsillo
(2011-2018)
Previews Editor, Reviews Editor, Associate Editor
"You're welcome for the Flaming Dragon Punch."
–Ray Price
(1991-1992)
Assistant Editor
A chance to get your EGM memories into The EGM Compendium
over 1 year ago
– Fri, Nov 08, 2024 at 01:55:32 PM
Happy Friday, and thank you once again for your incredible support of The EGM Compendium!
Since we first launched this campaign, we've heard from backers asking if there's any way for them to become contributors to the project, sharing their memories of EGM to be included in the Compendium.
Our goal was for the contributors in the book to be people with a professional connection to EGM: people who wrote for the mag, worked in the game industry during its run, or keep the spirit ofEGM alive with their current work.
That said, we also know that the community of fans is vitally important to the EGM story—something you've shown us again in a huge way during this campaign. With that in mind, we've come up with an idea that'll let us include some of your stories in the Compendium—and help us make one last push to get the word out during the final stretch of the campaign.
From now through the end of the campaign, we're asking you to share your fondest memories of EGM on social media with the hashtag #EGMmemories and include a link to the EGM Compendium Kickstarter page in your post. After the campaign wraps, we'll check all the major platforms—we're thinking Twitter (it's still Twitter to us), Threads, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Bluesky, but let us know if we forgot your favorite in the comments. We'll pick some of our favorites to include in the book.
While any and all of your memories are welcome, those that pertain to a particular era, issue, or article from EGM's run will have the best shot at getting into the book. Basically, the more specific you can be, the better.
We look forward to hearing about all the moments in EGM history that had the biggest impact on you. Even if your personal story doesn't make it into the book, it'll certainly help us better understand what made the magazine special to you as we finish work on the Compendium.
Thanks again.
A brief update on poster rewards
– Thu, Nov 07, 2024 at 02:54:19 PM
We've been listening to your feedback on the EGM Covers Poster reward throughout the campaign, and we have some news to share today.
We can now confirm that anyone who backs at a tier that includes the poster reward is getting an upgrade. Backers at the Special Collector's Edition, Quartermanniac, Super Collector's Edition II Turbo (and Restock) tiers will receive an A2 size poster.
Backers at the Editors' Choice Leather Edition and I Am Sushi-X (and Restock) tiers will get an upgrade to an even larger poster size. Additionally, all posters for these two tiers will be signed by EGM founder Steve Harris.
We hope this makes the reward tier you've pledged (or plan to pledge) at just a little more exciting.
Thanks again for your support.

We know we already sent you one update today, so we'll keep this quick and to the point. Thanks to you, our campaign has now passed the $600,000 mark—a truly unbelievable figure that also means The EGM Compendium is now the most funded video game book in Kickstarter history.
We wouldn't be here without the support of each and every one of you. Thank you for sharing your love of EGM and for the opportunity you've given us to honor the legacy of an institution that means so much to us all.
We've got more updates planned for the rest of this campaign, and we'll of course stay in regular touch after that, as we work to deliver you the Compendium, the Digital Archive, and all of your rewards. We're honored to have you on this journey with us.
Thanks again.
Super Collector’s Edition II Turbo and I Am Sushi-X restocks live—and the new Editors’ Choice tier revealed
over 1 year ago
– Wed, Nov 06, 2024 at 12:09:11 PM
Hello to all of our backers, and thank you for your support of The Electronic Gaming Monthly Compendium. We know today’s the day many of you have been waiting for, so we’ll get right to it!
The restocks are now live. As we discussed in our Monday update, the new batch of Super Collector’s Edition II Turbo and I Am Sushi-X tier rewards are up as new tiers with "Restock" at the end. This is the last time we’ll be adding in more of these tiers, so once they’re sell out, they’re gone forever.
As we hinted earlier, we also have one more surprise to reveal to you today: Ever since launch day, when we first got a sense of your incredible response to the campaign, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to see if we might be able to deliver a high-end, extremely limited version of The EGM Compendium for backers interested in the ultimate collector’s edition of the book. Today, we’re finally ready to announce it.
This new edition of the physical book will go out to all of our I Am Sushi-X tier backers as a retroactive upgrade to that tier. It will also be the centerpiece of a new limited tier: the Editors' Choice Edition, named in honor of the awards EGM’s Review Crew handed out to the best of the best.
This version of the book will be bound in leather, with premium sewn binding, gold gilded pages, gold foil stamping on the cover and spine, and two ribbon bookmarks. It will also come with its own cloth slipcase for storage. Each copy will be hand-numbered and hand-signed by EGM founder Steve Harris.
Each copy of the leather edition of the book will have a special frontispiece, or art page at the beginning of the book. The 24 copies we send to I Am Sushi-X tier backers will feature an image of (what else) Sushi-X, commemorating their support of the campaign, and be numbered 1 through 24. Each of the 264 copies available as part of the Editor’s Choice tier will have a frontispiece based on the cover art of a different issue of EGM, from #1 through #264. In other words, each of these Editor’s Choice copies will be one of a kind, literally unique.
All told, only 300 of these leather editions will be printed: 264 for the Editors' Choice backers, 24 for the I Am Sushi-X backers, and 12 artist proofs.
Apart from the unique book and slipcase, the contents of the Editors' Choice Leather Edition Tier are otherwise identical to the Quartermanniac tier, so backers will get the poster, enamel pins,"Lost Issue" print copy, access to the Digital Archive, and your name in the book as an honorary EGM Associate Editor. To keep on theme, the pricing for this tier is $264.
We hope you’ll enjoy this chance to own a piece of EGM history, history you’re helping to write with your support of this campaign.
Thank you again, each and every one of you.
