EGM Compendium Weekly Progress Update: October 10th

Hello and thank you to all of our backers! We’re checking in as promised to let you know what we’ve been up to and how things are progressing as we advance toward completion of The EGM Compendium.
It’s been a busy week, and we wanted to share a few quick details on what we’ve been up to.
On the layout front, we’ve wrapped up two of the outstanding feature designs after a few rounds of revisions, feedback, and some collaborative editing. That means there are just two left to finalize.
One of those two now-completed features is something we’ve been working on getting right for a long while now: An "Interface" section at the back of the book dedicated to you, our Kickstarter backers. We decided early on that we didn’t want to just dump the "Your Name in the Book" rewards onto plain pages, so instead we worked to recreate the spirit of the reader-driven sections the magazine featured throughout the years, first known as Interface, then Letters, then Login. This section will have a long list of names—unavoidable, with the volume of support we received—but you’ll also find letters and responses, letter art, and EGMemories from the community mixed in throughout. We wanted to make sure there was more reason for everyone to look through those pages and find something fun to engage with. We also wanted to put as much visual flair on them as the rest of the book. We hope you’ll enjoy it and agree the effort was worth it once you see it in the final book!
Copy editing and final page reviews continue at a steady pace. We haven’t encountered anything that necessitated any major revisions, so all good news so far.
All in all, we look to be keeping to our current schedule of get everything wrapped up by mid-November. Just a bit longer, and the digital book will be out to you and the files at the printer.
Back next week!

Last Chance to Late Pledge for The EGM Compendium
about 1 year ago
– Mon, Aug 11, 2025 at 04:13:44 PM
Once again, we’d like to thank all of our backers for making The EGM Compendium such an incredible success.
Today, we’re announced two important upcoming deadlines.
First, on August 15th, we’ll be ending Late Pledges on the campaign. Late Pledges have been an incredible boost to the campaign, but it’s finally time to bring them to a close. If you’ve been following the project but haven’t yet backed, this is your last chance to get the Kickstarter-exclusive rewards.
The following week, on August 22nd, we will locking orders on BackerKit. That means you’ll no longer be able to make any changes to your survey that involve modifying the contents of your pledge. If you’d like to add, remove, or tweak any add-ons, please do so before then.
And if you haven’t filled out your BackerKit survey yet, please do that as soon as possible. As a reminder, you can always access your survey by entering the email address associated with your Kickstarter pledge at https://egmcompendium.backerkit.com/.
Be aware that even after orders are locked, you’ll still be able to update your shipping address. We’ll send a separate update to provide advance notice before we lock addresses.
Thanks again.
Ed!

Hello and thanks again to you, our backers!
We had a quick but exciting update we wanted to share. Since we first launched the campaign, many backers have been asking whether Ed Semrad would be participating in the book.
For any of you who may not be aware, Ed was a part of EGM from the very first edition all the way until issue 105. As the first Editor-in-Chief to follow founder Steve Harris, he played a pivotal role in building the magazine into the institution it became. We obviously wanted to include him if at all possible.
We’d first attempted to get in touch with Ed six months before the start of the campaign, with no luck. Each time we spoke to anyone who worked alongside Ed, we asked if they had any current contact information. Again, nothing panned out.
As we realized the window for Ed to participate was coming to a close, we tried again, cold calling one final phone number we were able to dig up. We got an answering machine, started to leave a message and then… Ed picked up!
We scheduled an interview, and Ed ended up speaking with us for more than two-and-a-half hours, sharing his wealth of memories and perspective on the near-decade he spent working on the magazine. We’re delighted we’ll be able to include him in the book.
